Oliver Tree

It has been a couple of months since the tragic passing of singer/songwriter, Oliver Tree. Though many, like myself, continue to mourn the loss of such an amazing spirit, he continues to be celebrated. Many of his internet collaborators have paid tribute to him through YouTube video specials or social media posts. Just last month his family, alongside his close friends, celebrated him, his work and his message by putting on a three hour memorial that was held in the Quarry Amphitheater in his hometown in Santa Cruz. This event was opened to fans to come and remember the late Oliver Tree in a way only he would want. There were costumes, comedy, gags and live music, very reminiscent of his shows.

Though his memorial was beautiful and a perfect send off, it isn't the only way he will be remembered. Mayor of Santa Cruiz, Fred Keely, has officially signed the proclamation stating that June 29, will now be remembered as Oliver Tree Day. This proclamation was officially signed August of 2026, stating that it was Tree’s many career successes and his influence on other’s, as well as the city of Santa Cruz’s influence on Tree, being Keely's reasons for giving Oliver his own day of celebration.

The proclamation states, “Oliver Tree was born and raised in Santa Cruz and has often credited the city’s culture, extreme sport community and culture, and creative spirit as influences on his work” and further references Tree’s famous line, “No matter how strange you think you look, how ugly you feel, you are beautiful.” The last line of the proclamation also highlights Oliver’s life mantra, “You know, people are going to judge you in life, and I find it’s much easier to just be able to take a deep breath, remind yourself who you are, what you do, what you stand for, what you live for, we’re constantly changing and evolving and growing, and if people don’t resonate with you at the moment, forget them.” There is no denying that the city of Santa Cruz loves Oliver as much as we do.

Now, until forever, Oliver Tree will be remembered for the light he was and still is to many, on his birthday, every year in Santa Cruz, on June 29th.
